Schedule Scheme
by: Oswin Pereira '10
When the school year began, the student body and faculty noticed many changes ushered in with the new principal, Mr. Cusanelli. One major change has been with the students' schedules. Some obvious ones have been made with the shortening of MODs, moving of homeroom, and with the addition of group guidance. Some less obvious changes involve the longer lunch periods and the possible uses for Junior Study Hall.
Most students, especially juniors and seniors have been accustomed to saying "MOD O," but "MOD H," has become common now in order to simplify the schedules. Rather than having mini-MODs where random bells would ring throughout the afternoon periods, class periods have been consolodated. This serves as a benefit to students since lunch periods have been extended so that students will not have to spend 3/4 of their lunch period on line in order to buy lunch.
The move of homeroom from mid-day to morning seems to be a mixed blessing. Since homeroom is in the morning, students can go to their lockers and to homeroom with plenty of time to spare rather than going to their lockers and running to a class which may be at the other end of campus. However, this prevents students from going to their lockers to exchange books after MOD B. While most do not observe this rule anyway, it could still serve as grounds for a JUG since the rules state that students may only use their lockers:
1. BEFORE FIRST PERIOD
2. BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF HOMEROOM
3. BEFORE AND AFTER THEIR LUNCH PERIOD
4. AT THE END OF SCHOOL
An addition to the Juniors' schedules are study halls and group guidance. For now, these periods are just used for students to catch up on work, but later on in the year, they will be used to prepare students for the SATs.
