JSA.....(The Debate Team)

JSA stands for Junior State of America, also known as the Debate team. Our moderator is Ms. Morey, and our members include Raul Lazo, President, Richard Jimenez, Secretary, Khalid Barnes, and Xavier Morban. We meet on Mondays after school in room 405 for about 45 minutes. We discuss several topics, covering issues in politics as well as school rules. Some examples of past topics are the torture of prisoners of war, the legalization of marijuana, gay marriage, and accessibility of the internet. Members are taught how to express themselves in public, become fluent in speech and making sure to get their point across. Each member is given a chance to debate and ask questions. On February 25th, the debate team visited St. Barnabas H.S. for a practice debate, where we learned a lot about structure and staying on topic.
