Guitar Hero: World Tour

by: Johathan Castillo '12

Guitar Hero: World Tour is the latest game in the Guitar Hero series. In this version, it is similar to its sister game, Rock Band, in which in addition to a guitar and bass, you can use drums and a microphone. You can play by yourself using one of these instruments, or you can hook up with 3 other friends and play a full 4-piece band.

One of its newest features is the ability to create and edit your own songs. Four people can record at once. When you go to this recording studio, you can press start to go to a menu where you can switch instruments, change effects and sounds, and so forth. When you select the instrument and effect, you can then play the notes you want using your guitar or drums on the fretlist. There is one MAJOR problem with live recording, there’s lag. Even though it is well under a second, it can throw you off because it affects the timing.

Another new feature is the ability to fully create and customize your own character and instrument. When creating a character, you can do almost anything, choosing between male and female, changing skin color, clothes, tattoos, facial appearance, a bunch of traits to make your character like just like you. Your guitar can be customized as well. For guitars, you can choose from different bodies, necks, head stocks, bridges, hardware, knobs and even strings. For the body and headstock, you can even go in and apply your own custom decals with full layer editing at your disposal. Drums are similar, though you don't have quite as many options. You can edit the logo/artwork on your bass drum if you'd like.
