Marist Youth Encounter Christ Program

(The Marist Youth Encounter Christ Program allows Mount students an opportunity to become closer to Jesus Christ.)

For over thirty years, Mount seniors have made the journey to Esopus, New York for the Marist Youth Encounter Christ. Mount students have said it was one of the best times of their lives. It has been such an impact on student's lives that many participants wind up coming back after their graduation to serve the Marist community as group leaders, running small groups and giving presentations. Volunteers even lend a hand in the kitchen, cooking and cleaning for those making the Encounter. These volunteers are the backbone of the Encounter and will help continue this program well into the future.

On October 19th-22nd, 2006 several Mount seniors traveled to Esopus, New York for the Marist Youth Encounter Christ weekend or very simply “Senior Encounter”. Along with faculty members, Mr. Vincent Caramele, Mr. Anthony DelGiudice and Mr. Donald Van Bomel, several Mount seniors gathered in Esopus with students from several Marist Schools from around the country. These schools are located as close as Manhattan and as far away as Miami, Florida. Through various activities, presentations, and prayer our Mount students get a better understanding of what it means to be part of the Marist community.

Senior Fabrizio Acosta (who made the retreat as a Junior) urges his classmates to attend because, "It was a great time that changed my life in significant ways.” He later said, “One change was I now realize that I am a part of a larger Marist family."

The Senior Encounter is a great opportunity for our students to see first hand how large the Marist Community is. If there are any seniors who might be interested in making the Senior Encounter please see Mr. Van Bomel as soon as possible. Spots fill up quickly. The next dates for the Senior Encounter are February 8th -11th 2007 and March 29th- April 1st 2007. The cost of the retreat is $90.00. No student will ever be denied due to financial restraints. Make sure to speak to Mr. Van Bomel about any issues you may have. Before making the Senior Encounter students are strongly encouraged to have made a Junior Retreat.
